Abstract

In this article, communication interactions on open Internet platforms are considered as a significant factor in the social adaptation of the population to diverse meanings on the same topic and, in general, to the socio-cultural environment. The focus is on the personal meanings of the participants in relation to the events and problems being discussed, on the one hand, and on the collective meanings that are developed as a result of mutual influences and interferences, on the other. According to the semiosociopsychological concept of social communication, which the article is based on, the concept of “meaning” is considered as a virtual multi-level structure of interdependent and mutually conditioned informative, cognitive, and figurative-emotional components focused on the intentionality (the balance of motive and goal) of the author/participant in the discussions. The method of intentional (motivational-targeted) analysis was used to identify the transmitted meanings. If the conditions of representativeness are met, the data on the features and parameters of collective meanings can serve as indicators of the success or risks of adaptation processes in relation to current topics and problems. The data obtained allows for timely and efficient management, political, socio-cultural, etc. decisions and actions (the “hand on the pulse” effect). As a result of studying the features of communication interactions on the open online platform Zen over the course of 2025, it was found that the majority of participants were able to adequately understand the diverse meanings of articles on the same topic, and that the prevailing collective meaning developed as a result of discussions generally corresponds to traditional moral values and norms. The data obtained indicate that communication interactions on open Internet platforms are a significant factor in the social adaptation of socially active and capable participants who can understand latent meanings (based on indirect data, these are mostly middle-aged and older individuals). The recommendations based on the data obtained are related to the advisability of educating all segments of the population, especially children, adolescents, and young adults, about the semantic features of the modern socio-cultural environment, as well as organizing mass events to develop the skills of understanding latent meanings in the field of social communication.
